Time to review your application

By Amanda Sparks
Assistant Director
Undergraduate Admissions

The weather might be cooling down, but things in the undergraduate admissions office are heating up! We're sure that things are pretty busy for you as well, but make sure you are keeping up with your application to Virginia Tech.

Even though you should have submitted you application by now if you were planning to apply to Virginia Tech, there are still a few things you could be doing.

To track your application, visit the application status page. If you submitted your application within the last few days, please keep in mind that you had lots of company. As a result, it might take up to two weeks for you to be able to see your application status online. Please try to be patient and know that we are processing your application as fast as possible. Keep checking the application status page.

Don't hesitate to contact our office with any questions you may have. This can be a stressful time of year for you, but it doesn't have to be complicated!

  2. Hi Kevin,

Thanks for checking out our blog!

We evaluate each application holistically. Primary criteria are: rigor of academic program, grades in academic courses, and standardized test (SAT or ACT) performance. Other criteria include alumni of Virginia Tech, pipeline or TRiO program participation, special talents, first-generation college attendee, interest in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, legacy, leadership and service, major, ethnicity, residency, disciplinary record, and (optional) personal statements and (optional) guidance counselor reference.

As you know, all applicants are required to disclose any past convictions or adjudications in the Community Standards section of the application. Information provided in this section is reviewed as part of the application materials and may be used to determine eligibility for admission, depending upon the nature of the offense.

Please feel free to call (540/231-6267) or e-mail us (admiss@vt.edu) if you would like to discuss this further.

  3. Hi,

I just applied for the upcoming fall semester. However I was not aware that if the Office of Undergraduate Admissions does not have all of my transcripts by the deadline that it reserves the right to withdraw any application without notice. Now is this a definite cut and dry situation? I have already requested my community college to send my transcripts, but am not going to be able to request my previous college's transcripts until Feb. 16. It also states, "Completed applications will receive priority in the review process. Because of time constraints, it is not always possible for the admissions office to request missing information." This makes it sound like it is based on circumstances whether or not VT dismisses my application since I have not had all of my transcripts sent. Is there some sort of late fee that I may be able to pay or something; Virginia Tech is my number one choice by far as to where I want to transfer.

    Thank you for your help,

  4. Hi! The application deadline for Transfer admission has been extended to March 1 (http://www.admiss.vt.edu/apply/transfer/dates_deadlines.php). For admissions purposes, we can receive faxed or mailed copies of unofficial transcripts; however, we must have an official transcript on file if you are offered admission to Virginia Tech. If you have copies of your unofficial transcripts, please fax them to our office at 540/231-2737.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our office either by phone or e-mail (540-231-6267 or vtadmiss@vt.edu).

    Best wishes,
    Undergraduate Admissions
